The Fiat 131 Abarth was built on the basis of the two-door version of the Fiat sedan. The development of Abarth involved many interventions such as the lightening of the body, the construction of oversized wheel arches, the adoption of air intakes on the hood and sides to optimize the cooling of the mechanics. The Fiat 131 Abarth used a longitudinal 4-cylinder front engine in line with the light alloy head and with 4 valves per cylinder. Built starting in 1976, it was used in the World Rally Championship where it won three constructors’ championships, an FIA Drivers’ Cup and a drivers’ championship. It took part in international competitions until 1982 when it was replaced by the Lancia brand cars. Among the most famous victories is the 1977 one at the prestigious San Remo Rally.
