The Ford Escort Mk 2 was launched on the market in 1975. It was a decisive evolution compared to the Escort Mk 1 presented at the 1968 Brussels Motor Show. It retained the high quality mechanics of the previous version but was completely revised in the design which interpreted the aesthetic and stylistic taste of the 70s. In addition to the more functional versions, there was also an Escort Sport version featuring a more aggressive look and markedly sporty interiors. Finally, the RS 1800 version with a 115 HP twin-cam engine was also presented, which formed the basis for the special version used in the World Rally Championship and which obtained significant results. From 1975 to 1979, the Ford Escort RS 1800 won the prestigious RAC (Royal Automobile Club) Rally for five years in a row, the most important rally event organized in the United Kingdom and an important round of the World Rally Championship.
