The Japanese GT-Auto Championship opened in 1993 and has become popular among motorsport enthusiasts in Japan. In the 1995 season, Toyota opened this event with the introduction of the Supra GTS version.
The latest racing technology has been incorporated into the bodywork of the Supra to improve aerodynamics. A 2,140cc 4-cylinder turbocharged powerplant was taken from the Toyota Eagle Mk.III racing car. The 6-speed sequential gearbox developed by X-Trac efficiently conveyed the extraordinary power of this rear-wheeled engine. The four-wheel double wishbone suspension components have been taken from another Toyota racing prototype, the TS010. Additional air intakes, as well as a huge rear spoiler and a large wing gave the Toyota Supra GT its massive silhouette and even more aggressive look.
Outstanding results in the 1995 season were achieved by drivers Sekiya and Kramm, driving a Patrol Tom’s Supra.
